Remember Abel Mutai, a Kenyan runner, inches away from victory, confused and stopped short by the signage. Behind him, Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez saw the misunderstanding and chose not to exploit it for personal gain. Instead, he shouted encouragement, and when that failed to bridge their language gap, he physically urged Mutai towards the finish line he rightfully earned.
When asked why he did it, Ivan’s response was a lesson in integrity and kindness: “My dream is that we can have a community life where we push and help each other to win.” He reminded us that victory without honor is no victory at all, echoing the values taught to him by generations before.
